青青河畔草

无名氏

青青河畔草,郁郁园中柳。

盈盈楼上女,皎皎当窗牖。

娥娥红粉妆,纤纤出素手。

昔为倡家女,今为荡子妇。

荡子行不归,空床独难守。

Green, Green Riverside Grass She Sees

By Xu Yuanchong(许渊冲 译)

Green, green riverside grass she sees;

Lush, lush the garden’s willow trees.

Fair, fair, she waits in painted bower,

Bright, bright like a window-framed flower.

In rosy, rosy dress she stands;

She puts forth slender, slender hands.

A singing girl in early life,

Now she is a deserted wife.

Her husband’s gone far, far away.

How to keep lonely bed each day!

Green, Green Spreads

By Wang Rongpei (汪榕培 译)

Green, green spreads the bank-side grass;

Lush, lush grow the garden willows.

Fine, fine stands upstairs the lass,

Fair, fair her shape behind the windows.

Bright, bright beams her rouged face;

Soft, soft are her pale-skinned hands.

Once a singing-girl with poise and grace,

Now she’s wife to one who roves the lands.

As he wanders in an unknown zone,

It’s hard for her to go to bed alone.

The Green Grasses Grow by the Riverside

By Wang Hongyin (王宏印 译)

The green grasses grow by the riverside;

Wait, beyond the willow in the garden,

A lady shows herself up by the window

High on the top floor of the house.

Slim is she, who dresses herself in red,

And puts forth her slender hands, slender hands.

Was she once a singsong girl, I wonder?

Is now her husband away from home,

Away for so long and, perhaps forever?

And she is now all alone in the room.

Neglected

By Herbert. A. Giles(翟理斯 译)

Green grows the grass upon the bank,

The willow-shoots are long and lank;

A lady in a glistening gown

Upon the casement and looks down.

The roses on her cheek blush bright,

Her rounded arm is dazzling white;

A singing-girl in early life,

And now a careless roué's wife …

Ah, if he does not mind his own,

He'll find some day the bird has flown!

The Beautiful Toilet

By Ezra Pound(庞德 译)

Blue, blue is the grass about the river

And the willows have overfilled the close garden.

And within, the mistress, in the midmost of her youth,

White, white of face, hesitates, passing the door,

Slender, she puts forth a slender hand.

And she was a courtezan in the old days,

And she has married a sot,

Who now goes drunkenly out

And leaves her too much alone.

Seventeen Old Poems (2)

By Arthur Waley(阿瑟·韦利 译)

Green, green,

The grass by the river-bank.

Thick, thick,

The willow trees in the garden.

Sad, sad,

The lady in the tower.

White, white.

At the casement window.

Fair, fair,

Her red-powdered face.

Small, small.

She puts out her pale hand.

Once she was a dancing-house girl,

Now she is a wandering man's wife.

The wandering man went, but did not return.

It is hard alone to keep an empty bed.
